AKERMAN'S BURTON LANDY RECOGNIZED FOR
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS LEADERSHIP
MIAMI — November 26, 2007 — Akerman Senterfitt Shareholder Burton Landy was recognized for his commitment to International Business, at the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s first annual South Florida International Business Leadership Awards. Mr. Landy is one of Florida’s pre-eminent international lawyers and has been at the forefront of Florida’s development into a leading international trade and finance center. He is the Founding General Counsel to the Florida International Bankers Association, was Chairman of the International Task Force which led to the creation of the Beacon Council and which he subsequently chaired. Mr. Landy served two terms as President of the International Center (predecessor to the World Trade Center) and also served two terms as Chairman of the Florida Council of International Development.
He led the first South Florida Initiatives to Asia and has served over 20 years as Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Korea. Mr. Landy is Founding Chairman of the Southeast U.S./Korea Economic Council and was awarded the Heung-In Decoration by the Government of South Korea. He was also awarded the Order of the Rising Sun Medal by the Emperor of Japan, several years ago.
He has practiced international law for more than 50 years, counseling foreign and U.S. firms and investors on their worldwide operations. He is currently Chairman Emeritus of Akerman's Global Practice Group, and serves as an arbitrator and mediator in transborder commercial and investment disputes.
Mr. Landy is Chair of the Florida FTAA's task force on international arbitration, established to enhance Miami's role in holding international arbitrations. He has served as President of the Inter-American Bar Association. and served as Chair of the U.S. Latin American Business Promotion Advisory Council.
Mr. Landy lectures frequently, has taught graduate courses on Latin American Commercial Law at the University of Miami School of Law and has published a number of articles. Among his numerous awards over the years are the University of Miami School of Law's "Lawyer of the Americas" and the Inter-American Bar Association's “Diploma de Honor.”
